Recognition of Utah CCW’s

Louisiana – Minnesota - Mississippi - Nevada  - Texas  - Washington

Due to the fact that many states’ laws go into effect today there have been a number of states that have changes to their firearms laws.

Louisiana has a slight change to its recognition of Utah’s CCW’s. Their recognition law goes into effect August 15. At that time they will officially begin recognizing Utah’s permit.  I had incorrectly stated that that change was immediate.

Minnesota’s recognition of Utah CCW is now official.

Mississippi. I just spoke with the person in charge implementing Mississippi’s new recognition bill signed by their Governor. It went into effect today 7/1/2004.    Even though Utah absolutely qualifies for their recognition. We must still formally accept their offer in a quasi (reciprocity) agreement. Mississippi will be mailing those out to the states that qualify next week.

Nevada. At this time the state of Nevada does not recognize permits from any other states. You may however carry loaded and concealed in your vehicle even as a non-resident.  We are looking at legislation the next time their legislature meets, which will allow for some form of recognition.

Texas is still in the works. The bureaucratic wheels are moving even slower that they used to in Texas. The responsibility for Concealed firearm recognition was transferred from their department of Public safety to their Attorney General’s office. Where we had it on the fast track for recognition before the change it appears we have had to start all over again.  We have Cheryl Luke with Utah AG’s office handling this. She is the counsel assigned to DPS/Bureau of Criminal Identification.  She has the final letter ready for Texas and just needs the ommissioner to sign.

Washington State is official as of yesterday, 6/30/04

Washington State recognizes Utah CCW Permits

On Friday, March 26, Governor Locke signed into law, SB 5083. SB 5083 is the "Reciprocity" bill by which Washington would recognize "Right-to-Carry" permits from states which recognize Washington concealed pistol licenses. This bill is the first step in getting more states to recognize Washington licenses. SB 5083 passed both the Senate and House with strong bi-partisan support. Please contact Governor Locke and thank him for signing SB 5083! You can contact the Governor at (360) 902-4111.

Georgia adds Recognition of Utah Permits!

3-18-2004

Friends,

We just added, after considerable prodding, the fine Peach tree State of Georgia to the list of states that will recognize a Utah Concealed Carry Permit. They have technically be required by their state Statute to recognize us as soon as soon as we recognized them. None the less the latter is why I still claim that Utah is the best permit to have. With a Utah Concealed carry permit you may* carry in the following 24 states, (21 States for Non-Resident Permits);

*some states require Utah residency before they will let you carry in their state with a Utah CCW Permit.
